mom, this is for you

8:33 AM

One of the things that I miss the most from living in Tahiti was my daily lunch routine with my mom.  We worked in the mission office every morning, and then we were huuhhhngry by the time lunch came around.  That's... a really dumb sentence.  I guess everyone gets hungry when that little hand points up but for some reason I always noticed my undying hunger more in Tahiti.  Probably just because I wanted a break so badly.  Anyway, it was always our brief escape from the real world, that thirty minutes of eating together and relaxing together.  We talked about home, we watched a little TV, we laughed about funny work mistakes.

We had a few staple meals, egg rolls from Cecile's, casse-croutes (glorified sub sandwiches), various left overs from big missionary meals, cookies, Orangina, and grilled cheese sandwiches.

We had grilled cheese a lot.  And I may or may not now have a physical kitchen to work with.  I came home from work a couple days ago, hungry from zero sustenance for the day, and I thought, "Imma make me a grilled cheese sandwich today!"  And... I was... happy about... it...

K anyways, this is what makes the Lauren&SueSmith grilled cheese sandwich better than yours.

Sorry we didn't have this cheese in Tahiti, Mom.

Onions.  Make everything better.  Everything.  Except maybe chocolate.

Yes I did just do a blog post about grilled cheese sandwiches.  What are you going to do about it.  This is just another superficial way of saying that I was thinking about my mom... and I'm excited to see her again in a few weeks.  So you better not judge that sentimentality.

I try, I try. And I'm so glad that you're not disgusted with the toasted mayo-ness. It will ALWAYS be a win.

  3. Dude, I work at ZUBS, remember? :D Our philosophy is toasted mayo. That and... grease...
