melody softly soaring through my atmosphere

6:28 PM

Yeah, whatever, summer is over now.  I didn't go quietly, though.  That last week before school kidnapped me was full of more fun than I've just about ever had before, in any of my other summers.  Yeah, it was that good.

Yeah kids, I hiked Timp.  This has been on my bucket list... ever since I started a bucket list.  Crossing this off the list was definitely one of the most satisfying emotions I have experienced.  I mean, climbing to the top of the mountain that looms over my town daily is kind of, like, amazing.  Utah is kinda pretty isn't it...

Taylor Abegg-Lawrence, Sarah Karlinsey, Ross Christensen, Michael Black and, like, me.  (photo cred: Sarah's camera...)

Just lookadat smile...  Even I can't hate on this picture of myself, this is pure contentment.  I honestly can't think of a time that I've been happier in the recent past.  Srsly, there is something about being out in nature, at "such great heights" where everything just becomes clear.  This world is beautiful, and life is a gift.  To be up at the top of the mountain with some dear friends was the epitome of joy... I definitely could have stayed there for weeks.  With, like a Cafe Rio stand at the top.

We also jumped in the reeeeeallyreally cold lake.  It was kind of dumb and kind of fun.  And really coold.  Fo reals.

And then, as if things couldn't get any better...
The Death Cab for Cutie concert.  Adam and Jessica, I love you forever.  That, too, was the best thing of my life.  Sarah, Ross, and I partied it up at this event and I died a thousand times.

They played all of my favorite songs.  From Crooked Teeth to You Are a Tourist (current fav..)  There is something so riveting about being able to sing along to every word of nearly every song they play.  The bass pulses deep in your chest, the guitar chords swell inside your ear drums.  Man, I love that stuff.

Soul Meets Body is probably my Death Cab song (though that's a very difficult decision) and I was thrilled beyond belief when the familiar chords filled the room.  I was worried that they wouldn't play it... I could hardly sing along, my mouth was gaping with disbelief at how Ben Gibbard manages to speak to my soul.

And I do believe it's true
That there are roads left in both of our shoes
But if the silence takes you
Then I hope it takes me too
So brown eyes, I hold you near
'Cause you're the only song I want to hear
A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere

That's just beautiful, is it not?  Music is constantly surprising me, I feel like a new person after I've been exposed to such strong melodies.  Soaring through my atmosphere.

And Ben Gibbard, you are a beautiful man.  Just saying.

If summer had to end, this is how I would choose to end it... every time.
