life takes you by the hand

I don't know about you guys... but I make a lot of playlists. They all have equally random titles and suit different moods. I remember when my parents finally got our iMac I was consumed with organizing my music library. My first playlist ever?

renn's awesomeness

My second playlist?

renn's awesomeness #2

The creativity of a 12-year-old. OHMYGOSH.

Anyway, my current mix title has to do with the Foster the People song, Helena the Beat. Upon actually googling the lyrics.. it's actually "sometimes life does take you by the hair," but, you know, it's still applicable. Sometimes life does take you by a ligament and there's nothing you get to do about it. Wait, hair isn't a ligament. *crickets.

Let's talk about how great Foster the People is.

You know those days when you want to just choose
To not get out of bed you're lost in your head again
You play the game but you kind of cut
'cause you're coming down hard and your joints are all stuck

Oh! Oh! And::

And every day that you want to waste, that you want to waste, you can
And every day that you want to wake up, that you want to wake, you can
And every day that you want to change, that you want to change, yeah

Everybody get your hands up, because this band just sucked those thoughts out of the soul of yours truly.

I'm currently on a trip to the middle of the semester couldn't-care-less plateau. You been there? I visit it every semester. It gets a little less ugly every time, and I've been there enough times to pull myself away quicker each time.

And then, life looked at me and said, "Oh jeeeeeez, Lauren. You lazy excuse for a human being. Let's throw you an open bottle of wine and two reams of unpackaged paper and see how your two hands like catching THAT. But don't actually drink the wine, because you don't drink. In case you forgot when your life suddenly got crazy."

The hand I've been dealt, the curve ball I've been thrown has completely turned my life upside down. But my sojourn at the plateau of sloth-death was terminated in record time: that's the good news.

I am now testing for my second degree black belt April 21st.

6 weeks from now.

Cue Rocky music.

Every day that I want to waste, I can. But every day I do waste is a tearing away at my chances to shine at my test. Or my chance at good grades.

Because it's going to be a lot of fun to get good grades AND perform with excellence at my test.

(April 21st is the Saturday after finals week).

Yeah, boyyy.

So here's to running faster than your bullet, life.

YOU HEARD ME. I WILL OUTRUN YOUR GUN.
